Can you guess what my New Year's resolution is going to be?
My wonderfully talented son drew a self portrait of yours truly. I thought he was doing a great job, trying to be very detailed oriented on the upper lip and my nose and eyes. But what exactly happened when he started drawing the shape of my face I have no idea. After drawing my prominent pointy chin he drew a conspicuous droopy line underneath it.
"What is that Tobie?"
"Your other chin, you know, right there." he said while pointing up to the mass of flesh dangling from my first chin.
"Oh geez...", is what I was thinking. I kept positive for the sake of his budding artistic interest, but inside I was dying of embarrassment and shame. I know he thinks that I am beautiful, he tells me so. But one day he is going to look at this picture (because I intend to keep it) and realize that mommy had weight issues.
It's an uphill battle and I'm still on my way. It's not really a new New year's resolution. It's a new resolve to make this getting in shape thing work.
I'm not throwing in the towel yet. This fat lady isn't singing!
Oh yeah, and flossing. I'm going to floss every day. Those are my resolutions for 2010.
So wish me luck!

Kara, you are beautiful. I think that since you are striving to resolve it to not worry about it. I never feel skinny enough. I never feel good enough but I have decided that I am me and if I am doing my best that is all any one can do.
Kara, you are beautiful. Inside and out! Like the above poster, I never feel skinny/healthy enough either. We all just have to keep trying. I gained 10lbs in 2009 and want to take that and another 5 off. Not sure it will happen, but I want it to. Just know you are not alone in your battle. I know you can do it!
This might make you smile: Once a little kid came up to me and rubbed my stomach and asked it I was having a baby! I wasn't...not even close to having one. Out of the mouths of babes. :)
I CARE!!! And yes, you ARE beaUUUUUTiful! Join the club girl - I gained 4 pounds in 2 weeks. HOW does this happen! My goal was to just maintain. Not soooooooo. On to biggest loser at the gym AGAIN. Maybe this time I can reach my goal AND keep it off. Don't you just wish you could get fit and reach your goal and then be done. NO -- we have to keep working on it. Anyway, remember: Nothing tastes as good as thin feels! AND...if you never give up you'll reach your goal. I really believe that. SO - get on your way. "You're off to great places...you're off and away"
LOVE YOU!
LOL! It's like my kids when they point out my zits and tell everyone "Mommy has red dots all over her face!!!" You are so beautiful Girl! I have never noticed a double chin! I always think that you & your husband are such a good looking couple. ANd have often looked at you in church thinking how pretty you are!
Kids say the darndest things! I can't wait until Allison begins drawing me; I know I'll get more than another chin. :-) I'm with you on the continuing battle, but I already floss everyday, so I'll have to come up with something else. :-)
If I looked like Sam's drawings of me I'd have no torso, circular feet and ears the size of dinner plates. You're lovely and do not have a double chin!!
By the way - I love your blog. Thanks for sharing the link. I look forward to reading more. :)
Ha ha ha ha... I love kids because they love you the way you are. Kara, you are an awesome, funny genuine lady--wanna move to Texas?
I have to say I laughed, Kids are hilarious. Good luck on your goals. I think you're beautiful and perfect the way you are.
I'm sorry, I laughed so hard when you told me a couple of evenings ago and I had to laugh again when I read it. I HATE and love how my children pick up on the little things about me I dislike..."mommy, your belly is soooo wrinkly (post Gunner)! Is it older than your face?" "Mommy, you're just like Santa Claus! Your belly shakes like a bowl full of jelly!" Gotta love children and their observations. The one thing I do appreciate about their noticing, is that it can spur me to try harder to combat my problem areas. Josiah informed me one day (when I was laughing about something) that he likes my mouth when I smile. And- "you sure don't smile a lot. I don't like your mouth as much when you're yelling." It made me realize that 1- I don't smile as much as I used to or should and 2- that I yell waaay too often. Definitely room for improvement in me!
