But while I'm working on that we celebrated the end of 2012 with a bang! I got to do something I've been dying to do ever since we found out we were moving to Jersey....I went to Carlo's Bakery!!!
I seriously was so excited we finally got to go here! I didn't mind waiting in line in the freezing cold for over an hour, it was totally worth it to me!
That is Maddalena, Buddy's sister, working the front counter. She seemed super nice and was even coming around the counter every now and then to take pictures. This place was beyond PACKED! By the time we got in there and made our order it was everything I could do to get my kids out safely while Theo paid for our purchase. I didn't even get to the register! And then to top it off the guy taking our order was super nice and asked where we were from, I told him Alabama, but Theo put in that we now live in Jersey because of the military, and he looks at me and says, "You know if you're military you can just walk in? You don't have to wait in line, just show them your I.D. and come in.". I think he saw my face fall, I didn't mind standing in line because I was just so excited to be there, but when he said that as I hung to a screaming Charlotte and my kids where freaking out, I did get a little perturbed. But at least we know for next time. Plus they were super nice to us when he found out we were military. He hooked us up with a free Buddy ornament and gave us a sweet discount. Then his sister shook Theo's hand when he went to pay and thanked him for his service! They are beyond nice here and I can't wait to go back. Also, the icing on the cake (pun intended) is that the food is really REALLY good! I've had food that has been raved about on some show and been disappointed before, but not Carlo's! We got 2 cannoli's and I have never had such a smooth ricotta cream before. It was silky and divine! Then we got this chocolate cake to split between me and Theo, I thought it was a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache on top, but it was a mousse cake with the ganache on top. They actually shaped it like a cake and it held up! There was this thin layer of cake on the bottom, but other than that the rest was creamy mousse, and oh my goodness was it good! Now my mouth is watering, I can't wait o go back! It's everything they make it out to be on the show.
My Hannah popsickle. Look at those gorgeous creations behind her. We started out small this trip, but I'm coming back for those babies!
Then we headed into the city, because seeing the tree at Rockefeller Center is the 2nd thing I've wanted to see since finding out we were going to Jersey.
Time Square
We had planned to park and walk around, but it was just WAY too packed so there was no way I was willing to get out just to see what I could see perfectly well from my heated car seat, and I was completely okay with that.
The Tree!
Radio City Music Hall |
Grand Central Station with the Empire State Building in the background.
Then we road around Central Park, it looks just like I thought it would! I can't wait to spend more time there. That's my other resolution, to spend more time in New York City this year. Sounds like a plan to me!

Your descriptions of the goodies was too much-my diet is ruined ;) It's no fun to be deprived anyway!
You're in my old hood. I love it! Okay, I lived in Jersey...but we went to the city for any little excuse. So glad you are getting to experience the East Coast! Make sure you get to Philly for the historical stuff. Fabulous town.
First off please thank your husband for his military service. I saw your blog on Carole's Chatter's list of blogs she follows and your name just popped out. I love that you wrote about what I had wondered - are the pastries and cakes from Carlo's bakery really that good.
Wishing you a wonderful New Year and if you need some help with cooking on a budget, come visit this ole gal sometime at my blog.
